The team of FirstAttribute looks back on a long history and profound project experience. Then as now, partnership, trust und user orientation
were and are at the heart of the company’s 20-year philosophy.
The first major successful project in 2001 was completed with the TÜV Süd Group. It stands symbolically for a multitude of ambitious projects, which FirstAttribute was allowed to supervise and which had a lasting impact.
Project management with user focus
Challenges of an international corporation
In 2001, the customer, which was active both nationally and internationally, had grown into a large corporation with 400 locations due to numerous mergers.
The variety of IT systems purchased with the acquisitions also grew in parallel.
At TÜV Süd Group, the support and maintenance of this heterogeneous IT landscape demanded immense IT resources and time.
At that time, the founder of FirstAttribute, Andreas Martin, together with a partner company, succeeded in convincing the management of TÜV Süd of the benefits of a standardization project.
Ambitious objectives
The challenging goal of the project team was to
- establish a corporate standard across the entire group IT,
- unify the heterogeneous IT systems,
- achieve cost savings and
- provide better support for business processes.
The project not only included the companies throughout Germany, but also the subsidiaries abroad in the USA and Asia.
Of course, there were initial concerns by the group’s Executive Board about the cost and complexity of the project.
Thanks to convincing arguments of the project team, which presented the considerable opportunities of the “clean-up work”, the potential of the projects was recognized. Also with regard to security, the urgency of the measures was understood and the implementation was pushed forward.
The human aspect (of success)
But the most difficult task was not the technical complexity. Rather, personal sensitivities took center stage. To make the standardization a company-wide success, the individual subsidiaries had to be convinced of the benefits of the restructuring.
Since then, this aspect has contributed significantly to the desired result in every IT project of FirstAttribute: Only by involving the most important people – the users (employees) – an IT project is crowned with success.
Thus, the project team took into account the different cultures of the individual sites. Their fears of loss caused by novelty and change also had to be considered. Ultimately, the benefits of a clean structure and greater transparency were recognized and positively supported by all IT coordinators and respective management teams.
Trusting in the competence of FirstAttribute and its partner company had paid off. From the detailed planning phase, to the implementation of the measures, to the overall project management of the customer, it was a great success. The goals were achieved, especially significant cost savings.
Thanks to this success story, TÜV Süd remains one of the long-standing customers of FirstAttribute.
