Azure AD Connect
Learn how to extend your Active Directory infrastructure to Azure Active Directory (cloud) using Azure AD Connect.
Integrate on-premise directory with Azure AD
Azure AD Connect (also AADC) is a software application from Microsoft that synchronizes Active Directory identities in Azure AD. Of course, this also applies to all other object types, such as groups or computers. AADC thus allows you to set up a hybrid environment. In a hybrid environment, all your directories (ADs) are integrated with Azure Active Directory.
Also, AADC is not a migration tool. Instead, it can be used as a “permanent solution”. Properly implemented, it enables regular and automatic synchronization of your Active Directory on-premise into Azure AD.
Shared user identity
The goal is to have a common identity for your users on-prem and in M365 applications, Azure and thousands of integrated SaaS applications (DropBox, Salesforce, Box, …). This improves access to cloud and on-premises resources.
Azure AD Connect replaces older versions of other identity synchronization tools. Specifically, these are DirSync and Azure AD Sync.
You can download AAD Connect for free from Microsoft’s website.
